Many children are interested in penguins. To prepare curious minds for formal learning when they return to school, they may be interested to consider how a penguin’s webbed feet work without freezing the animal. National Geographic reports that the penguin’s body temperature is 104°F (40°C) & the penguin is able to control the blood flow to the feet. This allow the penguin to keep its feet a degree or two above freezing. Maybe this is why penguins are said to have ‘happy feet’?
